ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA USE.
I remember my first email account, I was around the age of 17 years old, in high school and as expected my smile was full of braces, at the time my group of friends and I could not contain our excitement about the possibility of having our very own email account and be able to do whatever we were supposed to do with it, not very clear at the time.
Internet was not available at every household, so we skipped classes, hopped into my friends VW Beattle, so many of us like canned sardines (possibly 6 of us maybe more) but we headed to our favorite internet cafe. Once there we gather around the most "internet' proficient of us, she opened up Yahoo accounts to each of us, at the end we felt very accomplished and so grown up.
That was the beginning of my social media ride, with that account I was able to open my Hi 5 account and I remember feeling so happy about this brave new world in which we were able to connect with people all around the world, with not so much effort, to me it served as a kind of pen pal, where I was able to stablish connections with people from different cultures and countries, something that has always given me so much joy, I've always wanted to travel around the world, so this filled temporary a gap, some of this Hi5 friends I was able to meet in person, others ended up at some point during those years.
Who would've thought that social media was going to evolve into the massive monster that is today, capable of influencing tender minds into the darkness corners of consumerism or in a positive light into social bubbles where even as an introvert you can have a place as big or small as you want to, without ever sharing physical space with another human if you don't want to.
My position on this matter will remain neutral, as it is just another piece of evolution that as humankind we have to endure, ethics and definitely individual levels of maturity will keep playing big part of the demise or evolution of social media, one can only control what we give or take from it, hopefully we can all consciously use it as a tool and not the other way around.
